Dakota Fanning on Newmoon “Almost” Official, but Hasn’t Read New Moon Yet.

Dakota Fanning is almost officially a part of the Twilight sequel, New Moon.

While promoting her movie Coraline Friday, the 14-year-old Dakota Fanning said, “It’s not 100 percent yet set in stone but it’s definitely not totally untrue or a rumor. It’s definitely a possibility and I think it would be really, really fun to be a part of.”

Mariah Carey’s Film Wins Two Awards at the Sundance

Mariah Carey’s new film PUsh: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, is a big winner at the Sundance Film Festival, grabbing two major awards.

Push won the Audience and Grand Jury awards in the U.S. Dramatic COmpetition on the last day of the Utah Festival. Take your mind of Mariah’s flop movie, “Glitter” for a second, then watch Push. You’ll see a big difference in her acting. Mariah Carey told reporters at the festival, “The material is so great that I’m just privileged to be part of it.”

Unlike Glitter, Carey didn’t play the lead role. The film, who also stars Paula Patton, Mo’Nique and Lenny Kravitz, tells the story of Precious Jones, an illiterate, overweight teenage girl struggling to overcome the odds in Harlem. Mariah’s character is a welfare case worker looking after the main character, Precious.

Check out Mariah performing at the Neighborhood Ball last January 20.

Dakota Fanning is All Grown Up (Photos from the movie, PUSH)

At age 14, Dakota Fanning is already one of the industry’s most bankable young actors, thanks to her role in blockbuster films like “I am Sam,” “Hide & Seek,” “War of the Worlds,” alongside big names in Hollywood like Sean Penn, Robert Deniro and Tom Cruise. However, her role in the comics-inspired thriller flick “Push” is a more mature part for Fanning.

In an interview with MTV, the director of Push Paul McGuigan said he had few doubts about Dakota’s talent and her ability to play a snarky teenager named Cassie Holmes who can see glimpse images of the future.

McGuigan even insisted on working with Dakota Fanning, saying, “When I read the movie, the character that stood out was her character. I said to everyone, I can’t do this movie unless Dakota Fanning’s going to do it, because to me she was perfect for the role. I saw her in movies that were kind of homely movies and quite sweet films, but I knew when I met her that she had a bit of an edge to her, and I went for that,” said McGuigan.

He added, “She comes to this movie as a teenager rather than a little kid and I think that’s what people will be interested in.”

I always though Dakota was very talented, but it’s interesting to see her play an older character. With a possible role in the Twilight sequel New Moon and her upcoming thriller PUSH, it seems 2009 is Dakota Fanning’s year.

Mariah Carey’s “Push” Goes to Sundance

After her lead role in the flop movie, ‘Glitter’, Mariah Carey is again back on the big screen. But before you judge, forget about Carey for a minute and focus on her supporting role in the independent film, “Push,” which debuted at Sundance this past weekend.

On “Push”, she’s not being a diva. Instead, Mariah Carey plays a welfare case worker Mrs. Weiss who looks out for the 16-year-old, obese Precious Jones, who was impregnated by her father twice and beaten by her mother. Gabourney Sidibe, the girl who plays Precious Jones, is an unknown actress from Harlem.

Compared to Mariah’s 2001 mini-autobiography ‘Glitter’, where she portrays a glamorous diva based on her own success in pop music, her character in Push has stringy hair and a no-nonsense attitude. While ‘Glitter’ didn’t win the hearts of critics and fans, Push has a good chance as it is based on a best-selling novel and the ‘Monster’s Ball’ director Lee Daniels, who helped Halle Berry own a Best actress Oscar. Was Daniels able to push Mariah Carey’s acting skills to a thousand percent?

According to the Daily Variety paper, “Among the many delightful surprises in the film is Mariah Carey, who is pitch-perfect as a welfare counselor and serves as this demi-tragedy’s Greek chorus.”

You’ll also be surprised that another Grammy-winning artist, Lenny Kravits, plays a cameo role who aids the nurse through Precious’s delivery of her second child. Right now, filmmakers are still looking to find a distributor, but if it goes well, it may receive a wider release both in the U.S. and around the world.

Push has reportedly received one standing ovation. Do you think the movie is worth seeing?
