Joaquin Phoenix Says Goodbye to Acting

Last week, Joaquin Phoenix announced that he was giving up movies, telling the Associated Press TV News, “I think it’s just moving on. It’s rediscovering something else”.

At the American Film Institute Festival Saturday, Phoenix, 34, arrived at the premiere of his last film “Two Lovers” with the words “Good Bye” penned on his knuckles. Kind of dramatic, if you ask me. Well, the writing has said it all.

Phoenix’s publicist disclosed Friday that “Two Lovers” is definitely his last film and the talented actor is planning to focus on music. If you watched “Walk the Line” as Phoenix played the country legend Johnny Cash, you’ll know that Joaquin had a blast working on that role. He even did his own singing and learned to play guitar just for the film… and it looks like he found his love for music.

I really like Joaquin Phoenix as an actor; he’s one of the best ones in Hollywood within his age range and it’s a loss to the film industry if he decided to quit movie-making for good. Johnny Depp’s first love was his band, but since they did not achieve success, Depp became an actor instead. Now that Johnny Depp has all the money in the world, he plays with his band and keeps his love for music and love for the craft of acting balanced. Joaquin should have sought Depp’s advice before his decision, but let’s see if Phoenix can create influential music that will become as legendary as Cash’s music.
