An episode of Disney hit show Hannah Montana, which stars Miley Cyrus, has been cancelled after bosses at Disney received a flood of complaints from viewers, particularly concerned parents.
The episode entitled “No Sugar, Sugar” features Hannah that faced her friend’s diagnosis with diabetes. Although the show was scheduled to air in the States on Sunday, the show was canceled after parents with video-on-demand previewed the episode.
A Disney spokesperson has stated that throughout the scriptwriting stages, their executives from the Standards and Practices department reviewed the episode and also made sure medical experts agreed that the character with diabetes was told responsibly. But it seems that the experts made a bad call.
The rep stated, “Notwithstanding the measures we took, and based on the episode’s preview and early feedback from parents, we removed the episode from Sunday’s schedule and are now reevaluating it.”
I can’t imagine how controversial an episode from Hannah Montana can be, specially that the show’s target audience are mostly kids and teens.
