At age 14, Dakota Fanning is already one of the industry’s most bankable young actors, thanks to her role in blockbuster films like “I am Sam,” “Hide & Seek,” “War of the Worlds,” alongside big names in Hollywood like Sean Penn, Robert Deniro and Tom Cruise. However, her role in the comics-inspired thriller flick “Push” is a more mature part for Fanning.
In an interview with MTV, the director of Push Paul McGuigan said he had few doubts about Dakota’s talent and her ability to play a snarky teenager named Cassie Holmes who can see glimpse images of the future.
McGuigan even insisted on working with Dakota Fanning, saying, “When I read the movie, the character that stood out was her character. I said to everyone, I can’t do this movie unless Dakota Fanning’s going to do it, because to me she was perfect for the role. I saw her in movies that were kind of homely movies and quite sweet films, but I knew when I met her that she had a bit of an edge to her, and I went for that,” said McGuigan.
He added, “She comes to this movie as a teenager rather than a little kid and I think that’s what people will be interested in.”
I always though Dakota was very talented, but it’s interesting to see her play an older character. With a possible role in the Twilight sequel New Moon and her upcoming thriller PUSH, it seems 2009 is Dakota Fanning’s year.
