Josh Gad has been cast as film critic Roger Ebert in the upcoming STX Entertainment biographical comedy “Russ and Roger.”
The “Pixels” actor will play alongside Will Ferrell, who has signed up as critic and filmmaker Russ Meyer in the feature film.
“Russ and Roger” is based on the true story of the relationship between Ebert and Meyer while they made 1970’s drama “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” a satirical drama that ran afoul the censors but ended up having a massive success at box office.
Michael Winterbottom is set to direct “Russ & Roger” with the script penned by Chris Cluess. Mark Amin, Tyler Boehm, David Higgins, David Permut, Richard Waltzer and Cami Winikoff are producing.
Josh Gad was last seen in the comedies “Pixels” and “The Wedding Ringer.” He just finished working on Disney’s live-action movie “Beauty and the Beast (2017)”.
“Russ and Roger” is expected to hit U.S. theaters in 2016.
