Joining Oprah Winfrey, Kate Hudson and Mike Epps, Eddie Murphy has been announced to appear in the upcoming biopic about the stand-up comedian.
The still-untitled Richard Pryor biopic is finalizing its ensemble cast. Deadline reports that the long-in-development project is ready to be greenlit by Weinstein Company with Lee Daniels on board to direct.
Mike Epps will play the late Richard Pryor, while Eddie Murphy is set to portray the stand-up comedian’s father, Leroy “Buck Carter” Pryor. Oprah will play Richard’s grandmother, with Kate Hudson joining in as Richard’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor.
The biopic will reportedly focus on feature Richard’s meteoric rise, starting with his childhood and moving through his harder years in entertainment industry.
The script is written by Bill Condon, Danny Strong and Bruce Cohen. The biopic is scheduled to start filming in March 2016, with the official release date not yet announced.
