Lupita Nyong’o has joined Off Broadway’s Public Theater “Eclipsed,” the 2009 play by writer-actor Danai Gurira.

The Academy Award winner, who received critical acclaim from her performance on “12 Years a Slave,” will make her New York stage debut in the fall production of “Eclipsed.”

Lupita Nyong’o will work with director Lisel Tommy, who also helmed the play’s world premiere, which bowed at D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theater and New Haven’s Yale Rep in 2009. The Public Theater staging will be the title’s New York premiere.

Off Broadway’s Public Theater has been the place for big-name stars for years with the likes of Kevin Kline, Meryl Streep, Chloe Grace Moretz and even Anne Hathaway nabbing stints on Public stages in recent years.

“Eclipsed” begins previews Sept. 29 prior to an Oct. 14 opening at the Public’s downtown venue.
