Matt Smith is joining the ever-expanding talent on Netflix, after being cast in another original drama “The Crown.”
The ‘Doctor Who’ alum is set to join John Lithgow as one of the lead roles on the royal drama about Queen Elizabeth II and the prime ministers who shaped Britain’s post-war destiny.
Matt Smith is set to play Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, opposite Claire Foy as the Queen, and John Lithgow portraying Sir Winston Churchill.
“The Crown” is based on Peter Morgan’s play “The Audience” which starred Helen Mirren, and tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, including the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.
