Dwayne Johnson was honored with the Hero Award at the 2015 Guys’ Choice Awards, and took his acceptance speech as an opportunity to thank American troops in the audience.
The ‘San Andreas’ star invited “the brave men and women of our military services” in the audience and backstage to join him on stage. He then said: “I want to thank you so much for everything that you do.” He added that his said his career was only possible “because we live in a country where we’re free, and we get to celebrate this freedom.”
The award Dwayne Johnson received was formerly named “Troops’ Choice for Entertainer of the Year,” but was renamed this year as ‘Hero Award.’
While accepting his award, the 43-year-old actor also announced the production of “epic variety show” titled “Rock the Troops” by his production company, 7 Bucks Productions in collaboration with SPIKE.
The award ceremony was taped on June 6 at Sony Pictures Studios with Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as hosts. It will air on June 18.
