Kanye West and Paul McCartney released a new song entitled “Only One” over the holidays, with Kanye singing from his late mom’s perspective and the former Beatles member playing piano and providing background vocals.
The rapper has collaborated with the McCartney on the recently released song “Only One,” where the iconic singer provides piano accompaniment and background vocals, as Kanye sings “Hello, my only one/ Remember who you are/ No, you’re not perfect but you’re not your mistakes.”
In the song, Kanye sings from the perspective of his mother Donda who died from complications during surgery in November 2007. He sings: “I talked to God about you/ He said he sent you an angel/ And look at all that he gave you. Tell Nori about me, tell Nori about me,” referring to Kanye and Kim’s daughter.
The Kanye West and Paul McCartney collab song was released just before New Year’s Eve. Kanye’s label explained the creative process of the song which is expected to be the first single off his new album: “In early 2014, Paul McCartney and Kanye West first began working together in a small bungalow in Los Angeles. The process that would result in ‘Only One’ began with a simple brainstorming session between the two: With McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff.”
