Big Machine label head Scott Borchetta, who helped catapult Taylor Swift to superstardom, has been confirmed to join this year’s American Idol as a mentor.
Once American Idol’s season 14 begins, contestants will be mentored by the same music mogul who gave the world superstar Taylor Swift.
Big Machine Label Group President and CEO Scott Borchetta joins the show as in-house mentor, replacing former judge Randy Jackson, who served as mentor for a single season.
Whoever wins this season will work closely with Borchetta, signing with his record label, in partnership with 19 Entertainment and Universal Music Group. This is pretty big, since stars under his label includes Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line and the Band Perry, and Taylor Swift (since she was discovered by Borchetta at age 14), among other big names in country music.
Borchetta joined Idol during Hollywood Week with current judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., as well as AI’s host Ryan Seacrest. American Idol XIV returns with a two-night, three-hour premiere event on January 7th and 8th on FOX.
