Ben Affleck was promoting his film “Gone Girl” when he visited Real Time with Bill Maher and got into an argument with the host over Radical Islam and Islamophobia.
The political comedy round table show went from funny to very serious when fellow guest, author Sam Harris (Waking Up) stated that he felt like in the U.S., anyone criticizing Islam and its tenets is automatically declared a bigot against Muslims.
Bill Maher agreed with Harris and Affleck took offense to it, calling their statements racist and examples of gross stereotyping. Affleck argued that groups like ISIS were fringe and that the vast majority of Muslims don’t follow the same beliefs.
Maher and Harris countered by pointing out that general Islamic beliefs that oppress women and gays and even feel death is a perfectly suitable punishment for anyone leaving the Islamic faith.
