The highly anticipated Guardians Of The Galaxy isn’t even out yet, but a follow-up is already planned with a 2017 release date.
The announcement came at the Marvel Studios’ presentation at Comic-Con in San Diego. “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn tweeted: “Yes, I’m writing and directing the sequel to #GuardiansoftheGalaxy for theaters July 28 2017. But first go see the first one out next week!”
Everyone on the first film had been vocal about joining in for a sequel. Gunn previously said that he had always planned for a follow-up, saying: “I hope so. That would be my hope. That’s my plan so we’ll see how it turns out.” The film’s star Chris Pratt added at the time: “I’d be thrilled to do (a sequel). I’m just going to sit back and eat chicken and do bench presses and wait by the phone.”
Guardians of the Galaxy follow a group of unlikely superheroes led by Chris’ character, Peter Quill/Star-Lord. The film also stars Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista, with the voice of Bradley Cooper for the ass-kicking raccoon.
Josh Brolin has been confirmed to play super villain Thanos, which will be seen on both the “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.”
Guardians of the Galaxy opens in the US on July 28, and in UK cinemas on July 31.
