Veteran actor-director Robert Redford is set to portray CBS News icon Dan Rather alongside Cate Blanchett (as producer Mary Mapes) in the upcoming political drama “Truth.”
The movie will tell the story of the Dan Rather and his producer Mary Mapes who uncover the controversial Rathergate scandal about six purported documents critical of President George W Bush’s service in the Air National Guard in 1970s.
“Truth” is adapted from Mapes’ 2005 memoir “Truth and Duty: The Press, The President, And the Privilege Of Power.” In the book, Rather reported on ’60 Minutes II’ that Bush had benefited from the powerful position of his father, then an ambassador and future president, to avoid service in Vietnam.
The film will be directed by James Vanderbilt, who wrote the screenplay of the first two ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ movies.
