Former America’s Next Top Model contestant Yaya DaCosta is set to get her big break, as she lands the lead role of Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s upcoming movie “I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story.”
Yaya DaCosta finished Top Model’s third season as the runner-up, but has switched to films since 2005. Yaya has appeared in several independent films and guest-starred in All My Children, Ugly Betty, The Butler, and House. Now, she’s taking up a bigger role as the lead in the upcoming made-for-TV movie.
“I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story” will focus on the infamous relationship between the award-winning singer and Bobby Brown “from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage.”
According to Lifetime’s press release: “Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both. “
Whitney Houston died in February 2012 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA due to accidentally drowning in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine being contributing factors.
Angela Basset, who will be directing the tv-film, said in a statement: “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
“I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story” is scheduled to be released in 2015.
