“Cougar Town” actor Brian Van Holt has joined the cast of Syfy’s upcoming limited space thriller series “Ascension.”
“Ascension” is about a starship secretly launched from Earth in 1963 during the Kennedy presidency, sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to assure survival of the human race and populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.
Holt is set to play ship captain William Denninger, who is described as “a natural leader, a military man and politician … strong-willed and confident.” He became Ascension’s captain after heroically helping a fire that nearly destroyed the ship.
Brian Van Holt joins Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer. “Ascension” is created and written by Smallville’s Philip Levens and executive produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge), Mark Stern, Levens, Tim Gamble and Brett Burlock.
The six-hour drama premieres in November.
