Beyonce has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people.
The pop star, who graces the cover of the annual Time 100 issue, joins other ‘influential’ people on the list including ‘Happy’ hitmaker Pharrell Williams, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, former child star Miley Cyrus, ‘Scandal’ star Kerry Washington, “alarmingly talented” Benedict Cumberbatch, Amy Adams, and Late Night’s Seth Meyers.
Others on the list include Pope Francis, President Obama, and NBA’s first openly gay athlete Jason Collins.
Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg praised Beyonce for her influence in urging women to “be independent and lead” both onstage and offstage. She explains: “Beyoncé doesn’t just sit at the table. She builds a better one.”
Beyonce and Sandberg recently collaborated on a campaign to ban the use of the word “bossy” to describe women at work.
Beyonce was credited with having “shattered music-industry rules – and sales records” when she released her surprise album in December last year.
