Like many film franchise of recent years, the final film in the “Divergent” series entitled “Allegiant” will get a two-part finale on the big screen.
The first film in the series “Divergent” starring Shailene Woodley as heroine Tris has already made $117 million at the U.S. box office. The number was enough for the producers and Lionsgate to announce that the sequel “Insurgent” will be released next year and that the finale book in Veronica Roth’s series “Allegiant” will be split into two movies.
The finale will be released roughly a year apart with “Allegiant, Part 1” to hit theaters on March 18, 2016 and “Allegiant, Part 2” on March 24, 2017. But unlike other franchises like Harry Potter and Hunger Games who had split finales shot simultaneously, “Allegiant” parts 1 and 2 will be filmed separately.
