Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy will star as Sir Elton John in a biopic of the singer’s life called “Rocketman.”
The 36-year-old British actor, who previously played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, has been chosen to play Elton John.
FilmDistrict paid $10 million to acquire U.S. rights to the Elton John film Rocketman back in June. The 66-year-old singer himself will serve as executive producer alongside Access Industries’ Len Blavatnik. The screenplay has been penned by Oscar-nominated Lee Hall, who worked on the film adaptation of “War Horse.” It will be directed by Michael Gravey.
Rocket Pictures CEO Steve Hamilton Shaw said of the casting: “Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton’s story to life. We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board, and equally excited to be in the hands of Peter Schlessel and the entire Focus Features team.”
Rocketman, which reportedly follows Reginald Dwight’s journey from childhood piano prodigy to global superstar (under his stage name Elton John), begin shooting in late 2014.
