Lorde’s ‘Royals’ knocks Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ off charts (1)

Lorde’s “Royals” has kicked off Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” at the Billboard Hot 100 list, rising from #3 to the top of the list this week.

This is the first chart-topper for 16-year old New Zealander Lorde, who also becomes one of the youngest solo artist to top the chart since Tiffany (also at age 16 when her song hit the top in 1987) and Stevie Wonder (then 13 when he released “Fingertips — Part 2” in 1963).

Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” ended its two-week run at No.1, dropping this week to #3. Katy Perry’s former first-placed “Roar” holds second place, while Avicii’s “Wake Me Up!” falls 4-5.

Another newcomer enters the Top 10: “The Fox” from Ylvis, which moved from 13 to 8 thanks to the popularity as this year’s “Gangnam Style.” Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” moves from 7 to 4.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” at No. 6, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” at 7, Lady Gaga’s “Applause” at 9, and Lana Del Rey & Cedric Gervais’ “Summertime Sadness” at No. 10.
