The film adaptation of Tupac Shakur’s life has landed its finance and has been confirmed to be on the works.
Deadline.com reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films is working with Morgan Creek Productions to co-finance the film with an estimated $45 million budget. The site reports that the upcoming biopic also has rights to the rapper’s extensive music catalog, since the legendary music icon’s mother Afeni Shakur also serves as producer on the film.
No news yet on who will portray Tupac Shakur on the film, but if it follows the 2009 biopic of Notorious B.I.G. that hired unknown actor Jamal Woolard, it is possible that Pac will be played by a new face.
Earlier this year, Pac’s mom Afeni Shakur told Billboard that new music will be released. She said: “I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that Tupac’s entire body of work is made available for his fans. My son left many incomplete pieces and even more unfinished ideas. Using the blueprints he gave us, I am committed to fulfilling this duty.”
Tupac was tragically murdered in 1996, but his legacy has continued with posthumous albums, a Broadway show featuring 2Pac (which is also in the works) and the upcoming biopic set to begin filming in February 2014.
