Great casting news of the day involves four-time Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore and a role in the upcoming “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2.”
Lionsgate studio announced on Friday that Moore has signed on to play President Alma Coin, the president of District 13 and leader of the rebellion against the Capitol.
Julianne Moore joins the star-studded cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novels, the Hunger Games follow Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) as she leads the district of Panem in revolt against the corrupt Capitol. In “Mockingjay,” Katniss described President Coin as: “She’s fifty or so, with gray hair that falls in an unbroken sheet to her shoulders. I’m somewhat fascinated by her hair, since it’s so uniform, so without a fall, a wisp, even a split end. Her eyes are gray, but not like those of people from the Seam. They’re very pale, as if almost all the color has been sucked out of them. The color of slush that you wish would melt away.”
The first installment of The Hunger Games grossed over $600 million at the box office in 2012 and put Lawrence to A-list status. The second film, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” debuts in theaters worldwide on Nov. 22. Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 are slated to be released in November 2014 and November 2015, respectively. Both films will be directed by Francis Lawrence.
