After “Glee” tried its luck by signing Jessica Sanchez for a multi-episode guest role last season, showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy announced Wednesday that American Idol alum Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee for the Fox musical’s fifth season.
Murphy revealed: “I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall.”
It is unclear what role Adam Lambert will have on Glee and whether it will be as a series regular or a guest spot. Even reps for both 20th Century Fox Television and Fox are remaining mum about the role.
But one thing’s for sure, Adam would enjoy every minute of it. In January 2012, Lambert told The Hollywood Reporter that he feels “Glee” is “so cute” and “really paints a picture of what it’s like to be an arts kid in high school.” He adds: “Glee is really irresistible — it’s charming,” noting that he’d love to play himself on the series.
Writing on Twitter, cast member Lea Michele said: “Omg so excited that @adamlambert is going to be on #Glee this season! I hope he’s with me in NYC! #GleeSeason5.”
Since finishing as runner-up on American Idol in 2009, Adam Lambert had sung live and toured with Queen and released two solo albums – “For Your Entertainment” and last year’s “Trespassing,” which went straight to the top of the US Billboard Hot 200. On the last season of ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars,” Lambert played himself and performed on the show.
Glee returns with its fifth season Thursday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
