Angelina Jolie has found a lead to her Universal drama film “Unbroken.” Jack O’Connell has signed on to star on the film.
The English actor, best known for his role on the series “Skins” and films “This Is England” and “Harry Brown,” will play the role of real-life World War II hero Lou Zamperini on the Jolie-directed film.
Jack O’Connell beat out a couple of up-and-coming actors for the real. “Unbroken” revolves around the life of Louis Silvie Zamperini – a World War II prisoner of war survivor, inspirational speaker, and former American Olympic distance runner. Zamperini famously crashed his Air Force plane in the Pacific in 1943 and survived without food and water for 47 days alongside aerial and shark attacks, before arriving ashore on Japanese enemy lines where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years.
“Unbroken” is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s 2010 best-seller. It was adapted into screenplay by Ethan and Joel Coen. Jolie will be directing and producing with Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff.
Before ‘Unbroken’ hit theaters in December 2014, Jack O’Connell will be seen as Calisto on “300: Rise of an Empire” in March.
