Helena Bonham Carter just signed up to play the iconic role of ‘Fairy Godmother’ in an upcoming “Cinderella” film.
Oscar-nominated Carter will face off against Cate Blanchett’s Wicked Stepmother character, as she helps out Cinderella (to be played by Lily James) and her prince (Richard Madden) find true love.
While Helena Bonham Carter is currently gearing up for the July 3 premiere of Disney’s “The Lone Ranger,” where she plays a brothel owner, her next gig shows her in a different – more positive – light.
Helena is best known for many whimsical characters, such as Bellatrix Lestrange in the “Harry Potter” series, Red Queen in “Alice and Wonderland” and Madame Thénardier in “Les Miserables.”
“Cinderella” will be helmed by “Thor” and “Hamlet” director Kenneth Branagh, who directed Bonham Carter in 1994’s Frankenstein. Disney’s live-action adaptation of the classic story is set to arrive in theaters in 2014.
