Neil Patrick Harris is going back to his roots as he is set to star in the musical “Hedwig” next spring.
While the “How I Met Your Mother” star has been successfully hosting the Tony Awards ceremonies for four years (most recently the one held earlier this month), Neil Patrick Harris is set to return to Broadway to show off his acting chops.
NPH’s last Broadway production was the 2004 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins. The news of his Broadway comeback was announced Monday. He will star next spring in the Main Stem premiere of “Hedwig And the Angry Inch.” Harris, who just turned 40 years old, will play the transgender frontman/woman of a rock and roll band.
In a statement, Harris said he is “simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig’s heels. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can’t wait to begin the journey.”
