Mariah Carey has officially stated that she won’t be returning to the FOX singing competition “American Idol.”
Carey’s publicity firm PMK BNC tweeted Thursday that Carey won’t be returning as a judge for Idol’s season 13 as the veteran singer is planning a world tour thanks to the success of her new single (with Miguel) entitled “Beautiful.” The tweet read: “W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @mariahcarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol”
Carey joined original Idol judge Randy Jackson for season 12 of American Idol, alongside new judges Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. Throughout the season, Nicki and Mariah bickered on the show, creating a feud that was uncomfortable for both viewers and contestants.
With Randy Jackson’s announcement that he was leaving the show, and FOX signing on Jennifer Hudson as next year’s judge, the judges panel seems to be going on a clean slate.
Fox and Idol’s producers released a statement about the announcement: “Mariah Carey is a true global icon — one of the most accomplished artists on the planet — and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the ‘American Idol’ contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to ‘Idol’ hopefuls for many seasons to come.”
Now the futures of Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban on Idol are the only announcements left to be confirmed.
