Finally, after nine months of waiting, “GI Joe: Retaliation” was finally released, and it went on to top the Easter weekend box office charts.
The action flick starring Bruce Willis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Channing Tatum spent the weekend at No. 1 with receipts totaling $41.2 million, according to Sunday’s studio estimates.
“Retaliation” is the sequel to the 2009 hit “GI Joe: Rise of Cobra”. Its release was initially delayed in order to convert the film to 3D format.
Since its opening on Wednesday, “Retaliation” already grossed a domestic total of $51.7 million.
On second place was “The Croods”, last week’s number 1, which raked in $26.5 million.
On No. 3 was “Tyler Perry’s Temptation,” while the thriller “The Host” placed No. 6 during its debut at $11 million.
