“The Croods,” the 3D animated caveman comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, is currently on top of the weekend box office, opening at No. 1 with an estimated $44.7 million.
The adventure flick from DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox showcased an ensemble voice cast such as Catherine Keener, Nicolas Cage, Reynolds and Stone, in which they play a prehistoric family that encounters new dangers and strange creatures while looking for a new cave for a home.
Another strong contender for the box office during the weekend was “Olympus Has Fallen,” which opened at $30.5 million. The action thriller stars Gerard Butler, together with Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett. The film is said to have exceeded the expectations of distributor FilmDistrict, who had placed it in the under-$20 million category.
