Madonna has been slated to take part of the upcoming GLAAD Media Awards this coming March 16-and this is to present an award to CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
According to the gay advocacy group, they chose the singer to hand Cooper the Vito Russo Award at the prestigious awards show, that’s now on its 16th year. A major reason for this is that Madonna and Cooper have been longtime friends and have likewise used their careers in the media to support the rights of lesbian, gay and transgender individuals.
Despite being well known for keeping his private life private, Cooper allowed blogger Andrew Sullivan to publish a personal email in which he confirmed he was gay and “couldn’t be more happy”.
The award is in tribute to Victor Russo, who wrote the book “The Celluloid Closet,” which talked about gay people in the movie industry. He was also an important figure in the foundation of GLAAD.
