Toni Braxton hospitalized for ‘lupus and blood clots’

Toni Braxton, who has been battling autoimmune disease lupus since she was diagnosed in November 2010, was hospitalized in Los Angeles with complications relating to her condition.

The 45-year-old “Unbreak My Heart” singer announced the news herself via Twitter, telling her 670k followers Friday “Hey guys, I’m in the hospital for health issues related to Lupus & blood clots. I will be home soon…Thanks for all the love & support!”

Braxton, who stars in the WE TV reality show “Braxton Family Values,” has been vocal about her family’s history with Lupus (her brother also has lupus and her uncle died from the condition). She attends fundraisers and lupus-related events and revealed to 20/20 that the disease pushed her into bankruptcy.

Back in 2010, Toni disclosed her recent diagnosis while accepting the Woman in Achievement award from the 8th Annual Lupus L.A. Bag Ladies Luncheon. She said in her speech: “Today, I’m going to talk about it because I’m a survivor and I’m here, and I don’t want to lose hope. Take a look — this is what lupus looks like.”
