Ariel Winter, the 14-year-old actress who plays Alex Dunphy on “Modern Family,” has reportedly been removed from her home by a judge after allegations of emotional and physical abuse by her mom.
TMZ reports that the rumor of Ariel seeking legal emancipation from her mother just so she could be with an older boyfriend is false. The situation is definitely more serious than that.
Court sources tell TMZ that a guardianship hearing was held before a judge determined that the allegations Ariel was being physically and emotionally abused by her mother Crystal Workman. The judge says the allegations were serious enough, so Ariel is now placed in temporary guardianship with her older sister (and former soap opera actress) Shanelle Workman. Their mom has also been ordered to stay 100 yards away from Ariel.
Ariel’s sister Shanelle also had the same experience as Ariel two decades ago. The
Department of Children and Family Services removed her from Crystal’s home based on the same abuse allegations, which resulted in Shanelle being placed in foster care for over 2 years and she has never went back to her mom as a minor.
The judge set another hearing on November 20.
