Randy Jackson will follow Steven Tyler in leaving the American Idol judging panel, it has been reported.
Tyler announced on Thursday (July 12) that he is departing American Idol to focus on promoting Aerosmith’s new album.
Tyler said in a statement, “Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it… Now it’s time to bring rock back.”
A source told Us Weeklyt that Randy Jackson is looking to move into a mentoring role on the show.
“[Idol producers] think they need to freshen everything up now,” the insider claimed.
Mariah Carey, who is managed by Jackson, has apparently emerged in recent days as one of the leading candidates for a judging slot on American Idol.
“They are in serious talks with Mariah and it’s very close to being a done deal,” the insider said.
