Sir Paul McCartney married his girlfriend Nancy Shevell in London Sunday, the same date of his late Beatles bandmate John Lennon’s birthday.
The Rock n’ roll icon proposed to Jewish-American heiress Shevell back in May, after being together for four years.
The wedding celebrations began Saturday night when the couple received a blessing at a local synagogue as part of Shevell’s Jewish religion. The 69-year-old Beatles legend and the 51-year-old New York socialite then had a civil wedding on Sunday at London’s Westminster registry office at The Old Marylebone Town Hall. Nancy wore a knee-length white dress created by McCartney’s fashion designer daughter Stella.
Sir Paul’s younger brother Mike served as the best man, while McCartney’s 7-year-old daughter Beatrice served as the bridesmaid. Also present was Shevell’s college-age son Arlen.
After the civil wedding, the newlyweds and their guests continued the celebration at McCartney’s St. John’s Wood home.
Guests who attended the joyous occasion included McCartney’s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr, supermodel Twiggy, Barbara Walters, musician Jools Holland and hair guru John Frieda.
Shevell has been married once before. Paul McCartney has been married twice – first with Linda (who died of cancer in 1998) and Heather Mills (who divorced the Beatles Star in 2008).
