‘Harry Potter’ Star Talks Of Alcohol Problem, Being A Homebody

With Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows about to be released, many of the stars of the franchise will be closing the door on what made their careers. Daniel Radcliffe celebrated such a move by opening up about his life, which he is usually extremely secretive about.

In an interview with GQ, the 21-year-old who is currently making a splash in Broadway’s How To Succeed In Business Without Even Trying admitted that he had seen himself developing a problem with alcohol, including on set.

“I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy stuff,” he confided, saying that he had been drinking more while filming Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince.

“I really got away with that because there were many instances when a paparazzi shot like that could have been taken.”

Now, he says that he prefers to stay home and just chill out. In fact, he skipped out on going to the premiere party for the last Potter film and instead watched the Discovery Channel at home.

He also said that he was a nicer companion to his girlfriend Olive Uniacke when he was sober.

I, for one, am not surprised by the drinking, or that he prefers to stay home. He isn’t really seen out that much and has always been pretty private. As for alcohol, I would imagine success at such a young age built on a single franchise for so long could push anyone to cope with it in less than healthy ways.

The only thing that still shocks me here is that he has a girlfriend. Don’t get me wrong, the kid is a hunk. But I honestly thought for the longest time that he was gay.

Well, you know what they say about assumptions…
