Mel Gibson pleaded no contest to hitting his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in a deal that allowed him to avoid jail time.
Judge Stephanie Sautner sentenced the actor to three years probation and ordered him to stay away from his ex.
Blair Berk, Gibson’s lawyer, said he would finish a requirement for a domestic violence counselling pogram with a therapist he started seeing in January.
His attorney said that the 55-year-old actor will comple 16 hours of community service with Mending Kids International, a Burbank medical charity.
The judge warned Gibson that violating any terms of the agreement may send him behind bars. Judge Sautner said, “You are not to use violence or threaten anyone.”
In January last year, Gibson was accused of beating Oksana at his Malibu home while they were locked in a custody battle over their daughter.
