Rapper T.I. is in court today after allegedly violating his parole stemming from federal weapons charges. But just days after talking a man out of committing suicide, was it a publicity stunt to potentially limit his chances of prison time? Or was he just in the right place at the right time?
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, was arrested with his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle last month. The two were found to have possessed drugs, a direct violation of a probation order from 2007. In that incident, he was found guilty of possessing illegal firearms as a convicted felon after getting busted buying a couple of machine guns in a grocery store parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia.
He is facing prison time once again, and it has led people to wonder whether or not the Livin’ My Life rapper might have set the whole thing up.
But he has denied this, saying he heard about the jumper on the radio and was nearby, so he wanted to try and help.
“I believe that I have been put here for a purpose, and I believe that I have an ability to reach people that most people can’t reach, that I can turn lives around that other people, they can’t have the same affect. I think that God placed me here for that purpose,” he told Don Lemon on his CNN show.
I don’t think he orchestrated it, or at least I hope not. You hear so many negative stories about the selfish actions of celebs these days. It would be nice to know that someone like T.I., who has struggled with legal issues in the past, managed to do some good, and just for the sake of helping a guy out.
