Angelina Jolie is set to play ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra in a historical biopic.
After rumors about Jolie playing the iconic Egyptian hit the web Thursday, US Weekly reported Friday that the actress will indeed portray Cleopatra on the big screen.
The movie, which is to be produced by Scott Rudin (Julie & Julia), will be based on the soon-to-be-published historical biopic “Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life.” The book’s publisher Little, Brown confirmed to UsMagazine.com about the upcoming film. Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch said of Jolie’s casting: “Angelina Jolie radiates grace and power, exactly the qualities that [author] Stacy Schiff finds in her biography of the most intriguing ruler who ever lived.”
In an interview with the New York Daily News, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Stacy Schiff said: “I think she’d be perfect for it, and I can see a possible Oscar in her future.”
Angelina Jolie will be seen in the summer flick “Salt.” She is currently working with Johnny Depp on the movie “The Tourist.”
