The American Idol May 25 performances of Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze battle it out for the last time, and was given three times to sing and garner audience votes. Check out all videos of their performances below…
The competition began with DeWyze performing “The Boxer,” which Simon called “a great way to start.” Crystal then took the stage with Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee,” which earned compliments from all the judges.
Considering Crystal’s first song was a tough act to follow, pressure got to the best of Lee which was apparent when he sang “Everybody Hurts” with pitch far from perfect. Ellen commented, “I felt like you went off a few times. You could feel everybody get excited, don’t pull back.” Simon encouraged Lee saying, “I understand that you are nervous…when you come out on the next song, I want a 10 out of 10 from you.”
Crystal Bowersox performed “Black Velvet” with force. Randy said, “That is what I’m talking about…that was hot.” Kara added, “Tonight was to give it all your all…you want it, and we can tell.” Simon simply said, “You took that song and you nailed it. I am very impressed.”
For their final selections, Bowersox and DeWyze chose songs that they would put on an album if chosen as winner. DeWyze chose U2’s “Beautiful Day,” while Bowersox sang “Up on the Mountain.” For this round, Crystal Bowersox won with praises from the judges such as Randy’s “Culminating our 9th season – this was an amazing song by an amazing singer” and Ellen’s “You are in a league of your own. You have a beautiful voice, and so clear.” Before Simon had a chance to say his last critique on the show, Crystal thanked him and wished him luck. Simon said of her performance: “That was outstanding.”
From the looks of the judges’ comments, Crystal Bowersox is a sure win, but fans can chose otherwise and give Lee a landslide win. Tomorrow, we’ll find out with a two-hour finale beginning at 8 p.m. on FOX.
