The 88-year-old Betty White gave the 35-year-old comedy show a huge boost in ratings as she got her shot at hosting Saturday Night Live.
On Saturday, Betty White proved she still got her magic when she gave SNL the highest ratings in a year and a half. With a Facebook campaign, six Emmy Awards and 70 years in show business, Betty White led the Mother’s Day-themed episode with past cast members Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph. This week, the male SNL cast took a back seat.
After Betty White’s monologue, Shannon and Gasteyer appeared in their NPR parody “Delicious Dish,” then Rudolph worked her Whitney Houston impersonation and Poehler once again joined the “Weekend Update” desk. Jay-Z was this week’s musical guest.
Even teen star Justin Bieber gave his support for Betty White over at Twitter saying “BETTY WHITE RULES.” In face, Betty White was a trending topic on Twitter.com Sunday and fans all over the world were amazed by the veteran’s SNL appearance.
