Lawrence Taylor, the former New York Giants linebacker, was arrested by police in the Suffern, New York area early Thursday morning and charged with rape.
Authorities accused Taylor of paying $300 for sex with a 16-year-old runaway from NYC. The alleged victim in the case was reportedly accompanied to Taylor’s hotel room by a man named Rasheed Davis, who was arrested in New York. Taylor was charged with third-degree rape (sex with a minor below age 17), patronizing a prostitute in the third degree and a misdemeanor. The felony charge is punishable by up to 4 years in jail, the misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to a year in jail.
Authorities said police entered Taylor’s Holiday Inn room at 3:55 am Thursday and arrested him. A bottle of alcohol was found, but no drugs in the hotel room.
Taylor’s attorney Arthur Aidala denied the allegations, saying he will contest the charges in court. He also said Taylor “did not have sex with anybody,” disputing an account by authorities that Taylor acknowledged he paid for intercourse.
The 51-year-old Lawrence Taylor has had legal problems in the past, including drug-related charges, but has since said his drug problems are behind him.
