Actress Dixie Carter, who starred in the groundbreaking series “Designing Women,” has died at the age of 70.
She died Saturday in Houston, Texas, due to endometrial cancer, according to reports.
A native of Tennessee, Carter claimed fame for her unmistakable Southern voice and attitude in shows such as “Diff’rent Strokes,” “Filthy Rich,” and as Julia Sugarbaker in “Desigining Women,” which ran between 1986 and 1993.
Back in 2007, she was nominated for an Emmy for her guest stint as Bree’s mother -in-law in the hit ABC series, “Desperate Housewives.”
“This has been a terrible blow to our family,” says her husband, actor Hal Holbrook. “We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy.”
