What’s the latest on ‘American Idol’? It’s Crystal Bowersox who’s taking the lead, at least for the judges.
The 24-year old dreadlocked blonde performed a Janis Joplin classic “Me & Bobby McGee” for this week’s Billboard No.1 Hits theme. Like the usual, she did her number barefoot together with her guitar.
This week’s rehearsals were mentored by no less by tween queen Miley Cyrus.
“You’re doing your own thing, you’re not sliding all over the stage, jumping into the crowd like we’ve seen before, gimmicky,” says Simon, who referenced Tim Urban’s number earlier in the show. “You’ve just took a song, nailed it and you’re only gimmick is a carpet.”
Another standout that night was Siobhan Magnus, making this her second winning streak. She performed Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” along with her signature high-note belts.
Miley gave the fellow teenager a standing ovation, and three of the four judges were left amazed.
“I loved it man. You just went for it,” says Randy Jackson,
“You’re just so good,” according to Ellen DeGeneres. “I just, I love you.”
