“Avatar” finally lost its streak in the box office, after getting beaten by the romantic drama, “Dear John.”

The sci-fit hit dropped to the No.2 spot after giving way for “Dear John,” which garnered $32.4 million during its opening weekend.

“Avatar” however still got good earnings amounting to $23.6 million, and now its total sales reaching $630.1. It currently holds the highest grossing film of all time, with $2.2 billion, surpassing another all-time favorite, “Titanic.”

“Dear John” stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, and is based on the Nicholas Sparks novel about a soldier who finds love in the eyes of a college student.
