So it’s David Letterman and Jay Leno together again? Yes, but just for the Super Bowl ad.
The two late night hosts who had a falling out during the ‘90s and have been exchanging jabs with each other the past few weeks due to Leno’s move back to “The Tonight Show,” shared the couch together to promote the Super Bowl on Sunday.
It was the first time in many years that Dave and Jay reunited, and they were seated in between another talk show host, Oprah Winfrey.
According to sources, it was Dave’s idea to bring Jay into the ad, for the purposes of entertainment and nothing else. The spot was taken earlier during the week after a taping of “The Late Show.” Leno and Oprah discreetly entered the Ed Sullivan Studios to avoid commotion.
“This wasn’t done to help Dave or to help Jay,” says Rod Burnett to the New York Times. “Though I think it does help both of them. It was just done because Dave thought it would be funny and would entertain people. Nothing went beyond that.”
