The late King of Pop was honored with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys, and his children took the stage to receive the trophy on his behalf.
“We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, Michael Jackson,” Prince took the microphone and spoke to the audience.
“We would like to thank God for watching over us these past seven months and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support,” he continued. “We’d also like to thank the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him. Out father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. He has helped through many charities and donated to all of them. Through all his songs, his message was simple: Love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you.”
Not long after, his younger sister Paris took the stage and gave her piece. “Daddy was supposed to be here. Daddy was going to perform this year, but he couldn’t perform last year. Thank you. We love you, Daddy.”
Earlier during the awards show, a powerhouse cast of performers including Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson gave a 3-D musical tribute to the late pop icon, who passed away last June due to acute propofol intoxication.
