Because of the devastating earthquake that shook one of favorite vacation spots of most Hollywood celebs, stars get busy giving help, including Sandra Bullock, who just donated $1 million dollars.
The actress sent the donation to Doctors Without Borders’ emergency operations situated at Port-Au-Prince, where three of its facilities were heavily damaged by Tuesday’s quake.
“I wanted to ensure that my donation would be used immediately to meet the needs of the Haitian people affected by this catastrophic event,” she said in a statement.
According to the international Red Cross, around 45,000 to 50,000 people died during the quake.
Other stars have also reached out both in person and through the Web, including Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, and Lindsay Lohan.
“Haiti needs the world,” says Mo’Nique. “If we notice the state of the world, we’re still very separate and we’re so quick to judge and turn our back. For the situation in Haiti, the world needs to get involved and help that country get back on its feet.”
Kevin Bacon also had something to say: “I work with sixdegrees.org, and within 24 hours, we had on our homepage a direct link to a whole series of charities that are dealing with Haitian relief. People have really stepped up-especially during these tough economic times.”
