‘American Idol,’ one of the pioneers of reality talent competitions, just took off its ninth season premiere yesterday, and there’s nothing that can stop the show from getting bigger and bigger.
Almost a decade old, ‘Idol’ has undergone a lot of highs and lows, from experiencing decline in viewer ratings in 2009 to the departure of original judge Paula Abdul. But despite her absences, the show’s premiere made an astonishing 29.9 million viewers.
“We are thrilled to come back this strong,” says Fox exec Mike Darnell. “This is champagne cork-popping time!”
However, there are still critics who throw their balls on the show, especially at guest judge Victoria Beckham. According to the Los Angeles Times, Posh Spice was ‘the night’s saddest failure.’
