The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is the first of the “Twilight” films to be shot for IMAX theaters. The main difference with Eclipse and the other IMAX films is… “Eclipse” will be released on IMAX the same day regular screen size cinemas debut the film.
When the third installment of the Twilight Saga comes into theaters on June 30, 2010, fans will get to experience the film at another level.
Summit Entertainment’s President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution Richie Fay said in a statement, “’Twilight’ moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment, with the enhanced image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience putting them in the movie. The IMAX release puts us on the event film calendar for 2010, and we’re very excited to work with IMAX to bring a new kind of film to the IMAX theater network.”
For anyone not aware of the IMAX Experience, according to Wikipedia, the goal of IMAX is “to dramatically increase the resolution of the image by using a much larger film frame.”
In related news, the three main stars of the Twilight saga (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner” are negotiating their contracts for the fourth and final film “Breaking Dawn.” Since “Twilight” grossed $381 million worldwide (to date) and “New Moon” has grossed $500 million (as of December 11, 2009), the stars are likely to demand an eight-figure paycheck each.
Rumor has it that Summit Entertainment is considering on splitting the last movie into a two-part film finale. Whether this is true or not, “Breaking Dawn” will open sometime in 2011.
