Kris Allen may have won against Adam Lambert in “American Idol,” but he didn’t win this time in terms of album sales.
The AI Season 8 champ released his debut album with a disappointing 80,000 units sold in its first week, apparently the lowest release of any winner of the said singing competition.
His debut album slumped at No. 11 at the Billboard Charts, toppled over by another previous AI winner Carrie Underwood, who released her third album during the same week. Underwood’s “Play On” sold around 86,000 copies upon its release on November 3.
Runner up Adam Lambert meanwhile rose to the charts with his “For Your Entertainment” selling nearly 225,000 copies just after his sensational performance at the American Music Awards.
Guitar extraordinaire John Mayer reigned the charts with his album “Battle Studies,” selling around 286,000 copies.
